1) EPSRC project:
We are currently looking for companies interested in becoming a research partner on a project focussing on novel antimicrobial & durable materials.
The lead researcher is Dr Sergio Gonzalez Sanchez, Lecturer in Mechanical Engineering at Northumbria University <see bio>. He is applying for an EPSRC fellowship to study a range of antimicrobial metallic alloys in order to develop cost-effective coating materials with optimal antimicrobial activity and maximum resistance to wear and corrosion.
Dr Gonzalez is seeking UK companies with an interest in the use of these novel coatings to be collaborative partners.
There would be no significant cost or time impact to you or your company.
The deadline for Dr Gonzalez to complete his proposal is end March 2018, so we need to identify interested parties within the next week or two.
2) Plastic materials with in-use antimicrobial efficacy
We are currently looking for evidence and researchers regarding durability and antimicrobial efficacy under dry usage conditions of plastic materials in healthcare and hygiene-critical settings.
These plastic materials need to be:
- antimicrobially effective under typical indoor / dry conditions*
- resistant to disinfectants used in “deep clean” or outbreak situations in hospitals
- suitable for injection-moulding processes
- low cost / comparable to standard plastics
